God exists

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, today we address a topic of profound importance and depth, one that touches the very essence of our existence and faith. We delve into the relationship between faith and reason, a bond that in modern times has often sparked confusion and debate. In our journey, we will explore how science and faith, far from being in conflict, can actually lead us towards deeper truths about our existence and our Creator.
Indeed, faith does not necessarily require the support of reason to exist. Faith is a gift from God, a certainty in the heart that transcends human understanding. However, in an era where science has made significant strides, it is essential to recognize how reason and science can lead us to conclusions that strengthen and deepen our faith.
We often hear claims that there is no scientific evidence of God's presence, or that life and everything around us is merely the result of chance. These statements can sometimes shake the foundations of some people's faith, but I want to tell you today, my dear ones, that science itself, in its relentless pursuit of truth, is beginning to unveil the magnificence of divine design.
We should not fear science, but rather embrace it as a means to better understand the greatness of God. Science can be seen as an act of worship, a way to explore and praise God's creation.
Take, for instance, the work of two eminent researchers, Dimitri Marques Abramov and Carlos Alberto Mourao-Junior. In their article "The Origin of Life as a Probabilistic Phenomenon in the Universe," they tackled a question that has fascinated and challenged both scientists and theologians for centuries: How did life begin? Could it have been a mere chance event, a product of random coincidences in a universe governed by physical and chemical laws?
The authors used a mathematical approach to examine the probability of life emerging by chance. They chose as their starting point the genome of Nanoarchaeum equitans, an extremely simple microorganism that could resemble the earliest forms of life on Earth. This organism is a "living fossil," providing a glimpse into what life might have been like in its most primitive forms.
Their approach was to consider the probability of life's necessary information spontaneously emerging. They calculated that the likelihood of these informations forming by chance is close to ten raised to the negative five hundred thousand. Such an incredibly small number makes us realize the absurdity of thinking that life, in all its complexity and beauty, is the result of a series of random coincidences. This number nullifies any possible probability of spontaneous birth of life, in other words, it is probabilistically impossible.
But the researchers went further. They examined the compatibility of this random emergence of life with the overall dynamics of the universe. They viewed the universe as a closed thermodynamic system, governed by laws and probabilistic processes. However, their analysis revealed that, even in this context, the probability of life arising by chance is extremely low, almost nil.
Their conclusion was that, given these improbable probabilities, it is difficult to maintain that life emerged solely as a random phenomenon. Their research suggests that there might be other properties, still unknown, within the organization of the universe that have contributed to the origin of life. This leads us all to reflect on the immense complexity and beauty of the universe and the possibility that behind it all exists a guiding hand, a divine plan.
The study by these two researchers highlights the immense improbability, almost a mathematical impossibility, that life emerged by chance. And if science shows that life, with all its wonders, is unlikely from a random perspective, then we must ask ourselves: where does this life come from? It is here that our faith provides answers that science alone cannot give.
My dear ones, these scientific discoveries only serve to strengthen our faith. They show that life, in all its extraordinary complexity, is more than a mere accident. It is a gift, a miracle, an artwork created with love and purpose. When we look at life, we see not just a set of chemical reactions and biological processes, but the touch of the Almighty, the supreme artist who painted the sky with stars and shaped life from dust.
Reflecting on these truths, we must remember that we are not mere coincidences in a vast universe. We are sons and daughters of a God who created the universe with His hands, who breathed life into dust, and gave the breath of life. Our existence is not an accident, but an act of divine love.
As we proceed in our days, let us do so with the certainty that every breath, every heartbeat, every moment of our existence is a precious gift, part of the grand design of God. Let's celebrate the majesty of our Creator, praise His name, and live with the awareness of His constant presence and infinite love. May this thought accompany us every day, comforting us in moments of doubt and strengthening us in our faith.
