In recent decades, modern society has witnessed a powerful resurgence of interest in the invisible world. Unfortunately, this curiosity is not always directed toward the light of God and the Christian faith but often slips dangerously toward the darkness of esotericism. Many Christians, often in good faith or simply out of ignorance, approach horoscopes, fortune-telling, seances, or "healers" with dubious powers, considering them harmless games or supplementary aids. However, the relationship between Maria Simma and occult practices reveals a very different and much more disturbing reality.

The Austrian mystic Maria Simma (1915-2004), known worldwide for her charism of receiving visits from the Souls in Purgatory, left us severe warnings. According to the revelations that the poor souls confided to her for decades, occultism is never a game: it is a wide-open door to evil that carries devastating consequences. In this article, we will delve into exactly what the suffering souls say regarding this topic, analyzing the consequences of occult practices both during earthly life and in the afterlife.

Who was Maria Simma and the Authority of her Message

Before delving into the heart of the warnings, it is fundamental to understand the source of this information. Maria Simma was not an academic theologian but a humble peasant woman from Sonntag, a small village in the Austrian mountains. Her life changed radically at the age of 25 when she began receiving visits from the Souls in Purgatory.

It is crucial to make a clear distinction, which lies at the base of the difference between Catholic mysticism and spiritism: Maria never summoned the souls. She did not practice evocation. It was the souls themselves, by exclusive divine permission, who came to her to ask for prayers, Holy Masses, and small sacrifices to shorten their sufferings of purification. This charism, scrutinized and accompanied by wise Catholic spiritual directors, allowed her to know profound details about God’s justice and mercy, but also about Satan's traps. When we analyze what Maria Simma and occult practices teach us, we are listening to the echo of those who are already living the Truth beyond death and wish to save us from error.

What Maria Simma Means by "Occult Practices"

When the souls spoke to Maria Simma about occultism, the range of condemned practices was very broad and surprisingly relevant today. The souls revealed to her that Satan is extremely cunning ("the ape of God") and knows how to hide behind apparently harmless or even "scientific" facades.

The practices that lead to grave spiritual consequences include:

  1. Spiritism and Necromancy: The use of Ouija boards, automatic writing, Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP), or attempts to contact the deceased through mediums.

  2. Divination and Fortune-telling: The use of tarot cards, palm reading (chiromancy), or the use of a pendulum to obtain answers about the future or health.

  3. Astrology: Not scientific astronomy, but relying on horoscopes to guide one's life, believing that the stars determine human destiny more than Divine Providence.

  4. Magic and Witchcraft: Whether deceptively defined as "white" (to do good) or "black" (to do harm). Maria Simma was categorical: "White magic does not exist; every magic that does not address God and the Saints addresses, implicitly or explicitly, the devil."

  5. New Age Practices: Maria Simma reported that many souls suffered for having practiced disciplines that opened "chakras" or energy channels to non-Christian entities, such as certain forms of Yoga intended as spiritual doctrine or Reiki, when these replace trust in God.

  6. Superstition: The use of amulets, charms, horseshoes, or talismans to which a power of protection is attributed that belongs only to God.

The Consequences of Occult Practices in Earthly Life

According to the testimonies collected in her books and interviews, the link between Maria Simma and occult practices highlights immediate damage for those still alive. The occult acts like a radioactive toxin: invisible, odorless, but lethal over time.

1. Loss of Faith and Spiritual Aridity

The souls explained that the first consequence is a gradual but inexorable distancing from the Sacraments. The person who begins to visit magicians or read tarot cards starts to find prayer heavy, Mass boring, and Confession useless or "psychologically difficult." A sense of deep restlessness sets in. God seems distant, not because He has moved away, but because the person has erected a wall of black smoke between themselves and Grace.

2. Psychological Disturbances and Diabolical Oppression

Opening a door to the occult means giving a "legal right" to the devil to act in our lives. It is not necessarily total possession (which is rare), but vexations and oppression. People may experience:

  • Chronic depression without clear medical causes.

  • Sudden panic attacks and night terrors.

  • Inner voices suggesting despair or blasphemy.

  • Persistent bad luck in relationships and work ("strange negative coincidences").

  • Irrational aversion to the sacred (annoyance at the sight of crucifixes or using holy water).

Maria Simma often stated: "He who plays with the occult plays with his own mental and spiritual sanity." Many cases treated as purely psychiatric have, according to the mystic, a spiritual root linked to past esoteric practices.

3. The Destruction of the Family

A particularly painful aspect revealed by Maria Simma regarding occult practices is how they fall upon domestic harmony. Satan hates the family, the icon of the Trinity. When a family member brings magical objects into the house or consults mediums, a spiritual fracture is created. The consequences are furious arguments over trivial reasons, misunderstandings, divisions, sudden divorces, and unexplained illnesses in children, who are spiritually more sensitive.

Sufferings in Purgatory for Those Who Practiced the Occult

What makes Maria Simma's revelations unique is the perspective of the afterlife. What happens to the soul of a fortune teller, a medium, or a regular client of magicians when they die? If they are saved (thanks to repentance at the moment of death), they must still face a specific purification.

A Longer and More Painful Purgatory

The souls confessed to Maria that sinning through occultism is a direct offense against the First Commandment ("You shall have no other gods before me"). Relying on spirits or occult forces means saying to God: "I do not trust You; I prefer to seek shortcuts." For this reason, Purgatory for these people is terribly long and painful. They must purify themselves from having idolized created forces instead of the Creator. They often suffer in the "fire" of shame for having deceived themselves and others.

The Inability to Benefit from Prayers

This is perhaps the most frightening consequence revealed in the relationship between Maria Simma and occult practices. The mystic recounted cases of people who, despite dying in God's grace, received no relief from the prayers of their relatives. Why?Because of divine justice. Since in life they rejected God's help to seek that of magicians, in Purgatory they remain "impermeable" to prayers for a time equal to that during which they practiced the occult. Masses celebrated for them do not give immediate relief but are "set aside" for the future or given to other more deserving souls. It is an atrocious spiritual solitude, a total isolation willed by their own past choices.

The Burden on Future Generations (Generational Curses)

Maria Simma also spoke of "spiritual inheritances." Those who practice the occult damage not only themselves but leave a burden on their children and grandchildren. Often, descendants of those who practiced spiritism find themselves fighting suicidal temptations, psychic disturbances, or extreme difficulties in faith without knowing why. It is necessary to break these occult bonds with prayers of deliverance and Masses for the healing of the family tree.

Spiritism and Seances: The Great Trap of "Speaking to the Dead"

A separate chapter is deserved for spiritism, that is, the voluntary attempt to evoke the dead. Maria Simma was very clear on this point, dispelling a common error among the faithful who think they can speak with their deceased loved ones through mediums in good faith.

"It is not your loved ones answering!"This is the shocking truth. In seances, in almost all cases, it is not the soul of the deceased appearing, but a demon assuming their appearance and voice. Demons are pure spirits, extremely intelligent: they know the person's past, secrets, and nicknames, and use this information to deceive grieving relatives.Maria Simma explained that God allows souls to appear only in extremely rare cases and always by Divine initiative, never upon human evocation. Participating in these seances is a very grave sin and opens one up to diabolical infestations that can last for years.

The souls in Purgatory told Maria: "If people knew how dangerous spiritism is, they would never go near it, not even out of curiosity."

The Curiosity that Kills the Soul: Why Do We Fall into the Trap?

Why do so many people fall into this net? The answer that emerges from the writings on Maria Simma and occult practices is twofold: curiosity and a lack of Christian hope.We live in a frantic world that has lost the perspective of Eternity. Modern man wants answers "now," wants to control the future, wants to know if he will have money, success, or love. Christian faith requires patience, surrender, the Cross, and trust. The occult, however, promises immediate (false) control over reality. It is the temptation of Eden repeating itself: "You will be like God."

Maria Simma warned young people especially: "Stay away from games like the Ouija board, 'Charlie Charlie', or automatic writing. There are no games with the devil. He always plays to win your soul."

How to Break Free from the Chains of the Occult

Fortunately, the revelations to Maria Simma are not just harbingers of bad news but always offer the hope of the Resurrection. God's Mercy is infinitely greater than any occult bond. No pact with the devil is irrevocable as long as we are alive.

If you or someone you know has been involved in these practices, here are the suggested steps for deliverance and healing:

  1. General and Sincere Confession: This is the fundamental step. You must confess to the priest, clearly and specifically, every occult practice performed (e.g., "I read tarot cards," "I wore amulets," "I participated in a seance"), even if it happened years ago or as a game. Confession breaks the legal bond with evil.

  2. Formal Renunciation: After confession, it is useful to say a prayer of renunciation aloud before a Crucifix. "In the name of Jesus, I renounce Satan, spiritism, magic, divination, and every occult bond."

  3. Radical Destruction of Objects: Any object linked to the occult (magic books, tarot decks, amulets, talismans, statues of pagan deities, satanic music CDs) must be destroyed (burned or broken) and thrown away. They must not remain in the house, nor be given to others.

  4. Sacramental Life: Return to living a life of Grace. The Eucharist is the most powerful force against darkness.

  5. Prayer for the Souls in Purgatory: Praying for the souls, especially the most abandoned ones or those of one's own family tree, attracts their protection upon us. They cannot pray for themselves, but they can pray powerfully for those who help them ascend to Heaven.

Conclusion: Choosing the Light

The testimony of Maria Simma regarding occult practices is a precious gift for our confused times. It reminds us that the spiritual world is real, populated, and active. There is a battle underway for our souls. Esoteric practices are nothing but smoke and mirrors, illusions sold by the "father of lies" to distance us from the only true Source of peace: Jesus Christ.

We do not need horoscopes to know the future because we know that our future is in the hands of a Father who loves us infinitely. We do not need to evoke the dead because, in the Communion of Saints, we are already united with them through prayer and the Eucharist.

Let us listen to the heartfelt appeal coming from Purgatory through the humble voice of Maria Simma: leave the darkness alone. Do not trade your eternal peace for a momentary curiosity. God has prepared wonderful things for us that no magic can ever replicate.
